Icicle Pickles
Icicle Pickles is an easy dinner. Made with 2 gal. cucumbers, 1 pt. pickling salt, 2 tsp. alum, 8 pt. sugar and 5 pt. vinegar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.
Place sliced cucumbers in gallon jugs; pour salt over cucumbers, then fill with water.
Let stand for 7 days.
After 7 days, pour this off.
Put 1 teaspoon of alum in each jug, then refill with fresh hot water.
Let this stand overnight; pour off. Mix sugar and vinegar; stir well and pour over pickles.
Pour off and heat 3 mornings.
On the third morning, put pickles in pint jars.
