Combine cups water in large saucepan; to boil. Boil for 2 minutes and remove from heat letting stand for 1 hour.

Drain, reserving 6 cups of the cooking liquid.

3-quart saucepan, cook bacon, onion and garlic until bacon is crisp and onion is tender but not brown.

Remove bacon and drain on paper towel.

Set aside while stirring peas into mixture in saucepan.

Bring to boil, cover and reduce heat.

Simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Stir in crumbled bacon.

Serve immediately.
