Halupkies(Cabbage Rolls)
Halupkies(Cabbage Rolls) is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 lb. hamburger, 1 stick margarine, 1 c. long grain rice, 1 medium onion, chopped and 1/2 can tomato purée or sauce, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.
Mix thoroughly all ingredients; salt and pepper to taste.
Cut core out of head of cabbage.
Scald head of cabbage and remove leaves.
Cut thick seam off cabbage leaves.
Split large leaves in half.
Put 1 tablespoon of filling in each cabbage leaf.
Roll and place in pan with seam down.
Blend 1 large can of tomatoes; add 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 tablespoon wine vinegar and remaining half of purée or sauce.
Pour over cabbage rolls; add enough tomatoes or water to cover rolls.
Cut up unused cabbage and place in pan. Bake at 325°.
