Gumdrop Fruit Cake

Cream butter and sugar; add beaten egg.
Sift flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt together.
Add to flour mixture the gumdrops, nuts and white raisins.
Add applesauce alternately with flour and fruit mixture.
Dissolve soda in water.
