English Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 5 1/2 to 6 c. flour, 2 pkg. yeast, 2 tbsp. sugar, 2 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. baking soda, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.

👨‍🍳 Instructions

Combine 3 cups flour, yeast, sugar, salt and soda.

Heat liquids to 125°.

Add to dry mixture; beat well.

Stir in enough more flour to make a stiff batter.

Spoon into 2 bread pans that have been greased and sprinkled with cornmeal.

Sprinkle tops also. Cover.

Let rise in warm place for 45 minutes.

Bake at 400° for 25 minutes.

Remove from pans immediately and cool.

Especially good toasted and served with butter and honey.
