Sift dry ingredients into bowl.
Add shortening and 1 cup milk; beat for 1 minute.
Scrape bowl.
Add eggs, remaining 1/2 cup milk and vanilla; beat for 1 minute, or until smooth.
Grease and flour 2 (8 or 9-inch) cake pans.
Bake at 300Β° for 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
