Sift flour, sugar, cocoa, soda, cream of tartar and salt into mixing bowl.
Drop in shortening and add 2/3 of milk, then vanilla and beat.
Add eggs and beat.
Add the remaining 1/3 of milk and beat.
Bake at 350Β°.
