Date Nut Cake
Date Nut Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. chopped dates, 1 3/4 tsp. baking soda, 2 eggs, 3/4 c. shortening and 1/4 tsp. salt, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Pour 1 1/2 cups boiling water over 1 cup dates.
When slightly cooled, add 1 teaspoon soda to mixture.
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add eggs.
Sift flour, salt and 3/4 teaspoon soda.
Add sifted flour mixture to shortening mixture.
Add date mixture; mix until blended.
Pour into 9 x 13-inch pan.
Generously sprinkle top of cake mixture with sugar covering well, then sprinkle with nuts and chocolate chips.
Bake at 350Β° for 30 minutes.
