Mix and bake cake as directed on package in greased and floured pans.
Spread whipped topping over each layer.
Put cherry pie filling on top of the Cool Whip.
Stack one layer on top of the other, after putting the topping and filling on it. The icing for each layer, as well as the top, is the Cool Whip and cherry pie filling.
Chill until set.
