Crumb Cake
Crumb Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 (1 lb.) box raisins, cooked and cooled, 4 c. flour, 2 c. brown sugar, 1 c. shortening and 1 tsp. nutmeg, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Mix together the flour, sugar, shortening, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt.
Take out 1/2 cup for on top of cake.
Add cooked raisins to this mixture, then add 2 heaping teaspoonfuls soda to 2 cups buttermilk or sour milk; add to first mixture.
Pour into a 9 x 13-inch pan.
Sprinkle the 1/2 cup crumbs over top.
Bake at 350Β° for about 1 hour.
