Cook flour and milk very slowly until thick to make a paste. Cool.
Add butter, Crisco, sugar, salt and vanilla to paste.
Beat with mixer until thick and creamy.
(Don't underbeat.)
Add crushed, drained pineapple or chopped maraschino cherries.
(A nice party cake.)
