Mix dry ingredients; add buttermilk.
Heat shortening in loaf pan until very hot.
Add batter and bake at 350Β° for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let cool in pan for 30 minutes.
Serve either hot or cold.
This is good with ham, barbecue or spareribs. Makes 1 loaf.
