Add cornmeal to saucepan.
Cook over medium heat until thick and bubbly.
Sift together flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
Add to cornmeal mixture alternating sifted dry ingredients with large spoon.
Stir in oil, then well and fry like you would pancakes.
ladle to dip batter out.
