Cooked Soap
Cooked Soap is an easy dinner. Made with 2 qt. melted fat, 1 can lye, 1 c. liquid ammonia, 1 qt. water and 1 tbsp. borax, dissolved in 1/2 c. hot water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.
Method
Dissolve the lye in the water and let stand until it is lukewarm.
Add slowly to the fat, stirring constantly until jellylike.
Cook slowly.
Add Borax water and mix thoroughly. Remove from fire; add ammonia and stir until about the consistency of thick honey.
Pour into mold; cut and let cure from 4 to 6 weeks.
Same recipe may be used by omitting Borax or ammonia or either.
