Congo Squares
Congo Squares is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 3/4 c. sifted flour, 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. salt, 2/3 c. shortening and 2 1/4 c. brown sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.
Preheat oven to 350°.
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
Melt shortening and add brown sugar.
Stir until well mixed.
Allow to cool slightly.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well.
Add dry ingredients, nuts and chocolate.
Pour in greased 11 x 16-inch pan.
Keep mixture approximately 3/4 inch in depth. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.
