Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt.
Add beaten egg yolks. Stir in milk; cook over slow heat until thick.
Add vanilla and coconut.
Save enough coconut to put on top of egg whites.
Beat egg whites.
Add 1/4 cup sugar gradually.
Place in preheated 350Β° oven and bake until golden brown.
