Peel, core and slice cukes.

Put in solution for 24 hours. Lift rings out of water, wash and drain well.

Do this 3 times. Add the 1 cup vinegar, alum and enough water to cover rings.

Add food coloring.

Heat and simmer for 2 hours.

Lift rings out of solution.

Discard solution.

Make syrup with 6 cups water, sugar, red hot candy, 6 cups vinegar and cinnamon sticks.

Bring to a boil.

Pour over cuke rings.

Cover.

Let set overnight.

Drain syrup.

Reheat.

Pour over rings.

Let set overnight again.

Do this for 3 days.

On the third day, heat to boiling.

Pack in jars and seal.
