Chocolate Date Cake
Chocolate Date Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 1/4 c. water, 1 c. chopped dates, 3/4 c. shortening, 1 c. sugar and 2 eggs, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Boil 1 1/4 cups water; pour over chopped dates.
Let cool. Mix shortening, sugar and eggs; set aside.
Sift flour, soda, salt and cocoa.
Alternate mixing 2nd mixture into 1st with the date mixture.
Place in 13 x 9-inch greased cake pan.
Mix chopped walnuts, chocolate chips and 1/4 cup sugar.
Sprinkle over top. Bake at 350Β° for 30 to 35 minutes.
