Pour boiling water over dates and cocoa.
Add shortening, sugar, eggs, flour, baking soda and salt to date mixture.
Spread on greased cookie sheet.
Sprinkle 1 package chocolate chips and 1/2 cup nuts on top.
Bake at 350Β° for 20 minutes.
