Bake cake as directed in 9 x 13-inch pan.
Dissolve Jell-O in hot water.
Pierce cake with large 2 prong utility fork at 1/2 inch intervals.
Spoon Jell-O over cake.

Use pudding (dry) as it comes from box.
Spread Cool Whip mixture over cake.
Spoon on cherry pie filling.
