Prepare cake mix according to package directions, adding almond extract to batter.
Remove 1/3 of batter to another bowl; stir in 10 to 12 drops red food coloring.
Spoon in pink and white batters alternately into two greased and floured 9 x 1 1/2-inch layer cake pans.
Cut through batter with knife or spatula to marble.
Bake in moderate oven (350Β°) for 25 to 30 minutes.
Cool for 10 minutes.
Remove from pans; cool on racks.
Stir together pie filling and orange peel.
