Cream butter and sugar.
Add flour, salt, soda and vanilla. Mix well.
Roll into small balls.
Roll balls in sugar.
Flatten with bottom of glass dipped in sugar on ungreased pan.

Makes 8 dozen 2 1/2-inch cookies.
