Caramels
Caramels is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. butter or margarine, 1 (16 oz.) pkg. brown sugar (2 1/4 c. packed), dash of salt, 1 c. light corn syrup and 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Butter a 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
Melt the 1 cup butter or margarine in a heavy 3-quart saucepan.
Add brown sugar and salt; stir thoroughly.
Stir in corn syrup.
Gradually add the sweetened condensed milk, stirring constantly.
Clip candy thermometer to side of pan.
Cook and stir over medium heat to 245Β° (firm ball stage).
Remove from heat; stir in vanilla.
Pour into buttered 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
When cooled, cut into squares.
Wrap pieces individually in clear plastic wrap.
Makes about 2 1/2 pounds.
