Caramels is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. granulated sugar, dash of salt, 2 c. light corn syrup, 1/2 c. oleo and 2 c. evaporated milk, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.

Put sugar, salt and corn syrup into a large pan; bring to a boil and boil to firm ball stage, 245°, stirring occasionally. Gradually add milk and butter slowly, so that the mixture does not stop boiling at any time.
Continue to cook rapidly, stirring constantly to medium ball stage, 242°.
Remove from heat; add vanilla and nuts.
Stir well.
