Caramel Layer Bars
Caramel Layer Bars is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. flour, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. soda, 1/2 c. packed brown sugar and 3/4 c. quick cooking oatmeal, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Combine flour, salt, soda, brown sugar, and oatmeal.
Cut butter until particles are fine.
Reserve 1 cup. Press remaining mixture in bottom of 8-inch square pan.
Bake at 350° for 10 minutes.
Combine caramel and cream in double boiler.
Cook over hot water until melted.
Blend in 2 Tbsp. flour and spread carefully over base.
Sprinkle with chocolate chips, then top with reserved crumbs.
Bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes or until delicately browned.
Makes about 24 bars.
