Mix syrup, sugar, vinegar, salt and butter in a 2-quart saucepan, stirring constantly.
Bring mixture to a boil over a medium heat.
Boil gently until mixture reaches hard crack stage in water or 290Β° on candy thermometer.
Add soda and mix well. Pour foamy mixture over popped corn and stir well.
