Candy Cane Cookies
Candy Cane Cookies is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened, 1/2 c. shortening, 1 c. confectioners sugar, 1 egg and 1 1/2 tsp. almond extract, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.

Heat oven to 375Β°.
Mix thoroughly the first 6 ingredients. Blend in flour and salt.
Divide dough in half; blend food coloring into 1/2.
Shape 1 teaspoon dough from each 1/2 into 4-inch rope. Roll back and forth on lightly floured board.
Place ropes, side by side.
Press together lightly and twist.
Place on ungreased baking sheet; curve top of cookie to form a cane.
Bake about 9 minutes, until set and very light brown.
Makes about 2 to 4 dozen cookies, depending on size of canes.
