Cream butter on high speed of mixer.
Gradually add sugar, beating well.
Add flour and beat until smooth.
Add eggs and beat until well blended.
Add buttermilk and vanilla; beat well.
Pour into pie shell and bake 5 minutes at 400°. Reduce heat to 350° and bake an additional 45 minutes or until set.
Cool to room temperature; chill.
