Butterhorns
Butterhorns is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 3/4 c. flour, 1 pkg. yeast, 1 c. milk, 1/2 c. sugar and 1/2 c. shortening, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Combine 2 1/2 cups flour and yeast.
Heat milk, sugar, shortening and salt until warm (115° to 120°), stirring constantly until shortening almost melts.
Add to dry mixture; add eggs. Beat at low speed for 1/2 minute.
Beat at high speed for 3 minutes.
By hand, stir in 2 to 2 1/4 cups flour.
Knead for 5 to 8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Put in a greased bowl to rise.
Cover; let rise until double (about 2 1/4 hours).
Punch down.
Divide in thirds.
Let rest 10 minutes.
Roll into a 12-inch circle.
Brush with butter or margarine.
Cut in 12 wedges and roll into crescent shape.
Let rise 1 hour.
Bake in 400° oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
