Mix the sugar, Crisco, flour and spices together as for a pie dough.
Aside 1/2 cup of mixture for topping.
To the remainder, add egg, molasses, sour milk and baking soda. Mix together.
An 8 x 8-inch square pan; top with the 1/2 cup of crumbs that you set aside.
Bake at 350Β° for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
