Beef a La Mode
Beef A La Mode is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 to 5 lb. beef round or chuck, 3 slices bacon, 1/4 c. flour seasoned with salt and pepper, 1/4 c. vegetable oil and 2 c. water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Rub meat, to coat, with bacon.
Then coat on all sides with seasoned flour.
Heat oil in a heavy skillet or Dutch oven; brown the meat on all sides.
Add 1 cup of water and onions, cover and simmer 3 to 4 hours until meat is tender.
Add more water during cooking as necessary.
Add the carrots, potatoes and peas about 20 minutes before the meat is done.
Put meat on platter.
Arrange vegetables around it.
Cover with brown gravy.
