Apple Dumplings
Apple Dumplings is an moderately easy dinner. Made with pastry mix for 10-inch double crust pie, 6 large apples, peeled and cored, 1 1/2 c. sugar, divided, 3/4 tsp. cinnamon, divided and 1/4 tsp. nutmeg, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.
Preheat oven to 450°.
Roll out pastry 1/2 inch thick, and cut into 6 squares.
Place an apple in the center of each square.
Mix 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg and 2 tablespoons butter.
Fill the apples with the mixture.
Moisten edges of pastry with cold water and fold up around apples, sealing all cracks.
Prick with a fork.
Chill 1 hour.
Combine rest of ingredients and 2 cups of hot water; boil for 5 minutes.
Place apples in a 9 x 12-inch baking dish and bake 10 minutes at 450°. Reduce to 350° and pour syrup over the apples.
Bake 35 minutes, basting often.
Serves 6.
