Apple Cobbler

Sift the 2 cups flour and salt; add shortening (if it's lard, only use 1/2 cup; if vegetable shortening, use 2/3 cup).
Mix up into size of split peas with 2 knives or pastry cutter.
Add water slowly by teaspoons.
Mix lightly until dough forms.
Put layer of dough in bottom of bowl.
Save enough dough to put on top.
