Butter and flour a glass pie plate.
Preheat oven at 275°. Beat egg whites, salt and cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 cup sugar.
Beat slowly until sugar is blended.
Put in pie plate (try to form a mound with the filling, less on sides, more in middle).
Bake for 1 hour at 275°.
