Freeman - Asia Scholarship
A scholarship to provide information and financial assistance
to undergraduate students who wish to study abroad in East and
Southeast Asia. This scholarship is sponsored by the Institute
of International Education.
Awards Benefits are determined on the length of the program and
range from $3000 to $7000.
Eligibility:
1. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at
the time of application.
2. Applicants must be currently enrolled as undergraduates in
U.S. colleges or universities and be in good academic standing.
3. Applicants must currently receive financial aid or have verifiable
need for financial assistance to study abroad in Asia.
4. Priority will given to students with no previous experience
in the country in which they plan to study.
5. Awards are available only to students who plan to study abroad
in the following countries/regions: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong,
Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines,
Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.
6. Within three months after return from a study abroad program
in Asia, awardees must fulfill a service requirement to promote
study abroad in Asia on their home campus and share their knowledge
with their community.
7. Awardees must submit a final report to IIE within 6 months
after return to the United States, summarizing their experiences,
including the implementation of the service requirement.
8. Applicants' study abroad advisers must verify financial need
and endorse a student's application, before it is submitted to
IIE.
