Faculty-Led Study Abroad Programs
Faculty members interested in providing a faculty-led study abroad
program should meet with the Director of the International Programs
to discuss the procedures and guidelines for establishing such
program. Items to be considered should include but not limited
to:
a) Begin planning the Study Abroad project to a specific country
of the world as outlined in one of the programs above with reference
to weather or not TSU already has a program on site; whether a
study abroad program or an additional program at the site is sustainable.
b) safety and liability issued to be explored
c) American Disability Act (ADA) compliance
d) non students parents, friends, children- etc.- participation
e) justification of the site, country and purpose
f) number of students to be recruited and screened for selection
g) course or courses to be taught and length of same
h) credit hours earned; sophomore, upper levels or Graduate
i) complete package cost from and back to
Tarleton - for each student including the surcharge to cover faculty
expenses for the trip. Disclosure is mandatory
j) provide logistical information on housing, transport and meals
k) direct the application process including passport requirements,
visa and immigration procedures if necessary
l) informing the students of emergency and liability issues and
providing forms required by OIS to students in the study abroad
project
m) provide for a mandatory pre-departure orientation, given by
OIS, on matters of safety, health, cultural adjustment, differences
in academic expectations, foreign institution, and practical issues
on travel, packing, obtaining money, telephones, etc.
2. Discuss the proposal with the Director of International Studies
(OIS), Department Chair and the Dean of the College addressing
such issues as academic merit, use of faculty, faculty compensation,
and recruitment of students.
3. Complete program proposal the must be approved as indicated:
- Department Head
- College Dean
- Director of International Programs
- University Provost
